Matt Checketts, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.
Dr. Checketts completed his undergraduate education at Utah State University where he earned an Area Studies Certificate in Law and Society, and a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and political science. He then attended The University of Utah to study social work where he was awarded a M.S.W. in 2000 and a Ph.D. in 2009. His dissertation involved in-depth research on girls who engage in repeated self-harm. The title of Dr. Checketts' dissertation is Female Adolescent Inpatients: An examination of coping with emotional dysregulation, and the treatment experiences of youth with a history of self-mutilation. Dr. Checketts gained additional clinical proficiency through his work with Murray School District, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, the Utah Department of Workforce Services, and Valley Mental Health. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is experienced in treating a variety of emotional difficulties including personality disorders, anorexia or bulimia, depression, sexual abuse, family discord, and substance abuse. Dr. Checketts is active in the local community serving on a number of boards and committees. Included among these organizations are The Advisory Board of the Salt Lake City Salvation Army and The Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training Council. Dr. Checketts is the proud parent of two children, Ashley and Dylan. He loves mountain biking, skiing, exploring new places and watching movies with his wife Wendy.
